My Favorite Napa Valley Wineries

My Favorite Napa Valley Wineries

My husband and I visited Napa Valley almost three and a half years ago. We spent almost a week tasting and eating our way through wine country. Ever since then, I have been dying to get back there. This little Oklahoma girl never actually imagined she could love a place so far away from home. Seriously, if Jered were to come home today and say "Lindsey, we are moving to Napa Valley." I would be 100% cool with it without any hesitation.

Last weekend we celebrated my champagne birthday with a weekend in wine country. What's a champagne birthday you ask? Yeah, I also didn't know this was a thing until a friend of mine pointed it out. On October 28, 2016, I turned 28! I was 28 on the 28th. Sometimes it's also called golden birthday. Like I need a reason to celebrate, yeah right!

I want to share a few of my favorite vineyards that you may not have heard of since they are a little smaller than most. After visiting numerous vineyards and wineries, I have decided that I am not a fan of the splash and dash establishments. I enjoy visiting the smaller production wineries. During those visits, you seem to have a more meaningful conversation and get to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. If this sounds like what you are looking for, you are in luck! I have found three wineries that fit that bill. Each of the wineries below offers tours and tastings daily by appointment.

Chimney Rock

This is a family-owned and operated winery located in the Stags Leap District. To me, this is one of the most beautify estates. The building is in the Cape Dutch-style of the Western Cape of South Africa; that stands out from everything else. They only do one white wine and is something even red wine drinkers respect. My favorite red wine is Cabernet Sauvignon from the Tomahawk Vineyard.

Crocker & Starr

Charlie and Pam are the masterminds behind this winery located in the St. Helena Appellation. 2016 marked their 20th harvest together! Since this was our first time visiting, we booked the vineyard experience. We got to sample a glass of Sauvignon Blanc as we toured the vineyard and the brand new production facilities. After that, we got to sample numerous red wines and learn more about the estate and history. I enjoyed their Malbec Blend "The Casali."

B Cellars

Last time we were in Napa, this winery was at a different location. Recently they moved to a new estate in Oakville, and it's stunning! They have 600 acres on top of the Vaca Mountain Range with more than 150 individual blocks. If you visit here, you should book the Sojourn experience. You will receive four different wines paired beautifully with local cheeses and chocolate. I like the Dutton Ranch Chardonnay and the 2013 Blend 24. If you or someone you're traveling with is expecting or doesn't like alcohol, they offer juice tastings.

Cuvaison

This winery is located in the heart of the Carneros region in Napa Valley. It's been around since 1969 producing Chardonnay and Pino Noir. It's also family-owned and operated. The tasting room is so modern and open; it is truly beautiful architecture. If the weather is cooperating, I highly suggest sitting on the patio--the views will take your breath away! During our tasting, a jack rabbit was hanging out in the vineyard and a lot of different duck and geese out on the pound. My personal favorite is the 2013 Estate Chardonnay.

If you haven't visited Napa Valley, it should be on your bucket list. If you have enjoyed wine country, I would love to know which winery stands out the most to you.

The Perfect Fall Jacket

The Perfect Fall Jacket

Top: J. Crew Factory (not in stock) || Jacket: J. Crew (found it on thredUP for a fraction of the cost) || Jeans: Joes Jeans || Boots: J. Crew (similar pair) || Earrings: Kate Spade (gift from a friend) || Necklace: Kendra Scott || Ring: Tiffany & Co. ||

This morning it felt like fall! Seriously, it was chilly enough that I should have considered a hot latte instead of my usual iced caramel macchiato. I have been waiting for almost a month to bring out this marvelous jacket. I cannot believe that I found it on thredUP for 75% off of retail price! If you haven't heard of thredUP, check out this previous post (psst--there's a $10 credit for new users).

For some reason, I have been lusting over these jackets for a few seasons now. I just couldn't bring myself to spend $150 on a jacket. Here's the deal, I love designer things--but I never pay full price. I kid you not; TJ Maxx stole my life motto: never pay full price for fabulous. It seriously felt like every girl on Instagram had one of these field jackets but me. Well, that changes today! I am now a member of the cool kids club, eekkkk! I hope there is a secret handshake. Call me basic, but I am 100% totally down with it.

The Perfect Fall Jacket

If you don't have one of these puppies and don't want to spend $150--today is your lucky day! Seriously, this jacket is ideal for that weird fall ---> winter transition. They give you that layered look without all of the hassle, just grab and go out the door, girl!

Utility Jacket
This jacket is on sale right now for $31.99. There are not a lot of sizes left online. However, you might get lucky enough to find a store close to you that has one in stock. It has great reviews from happy customers! Important lesson, it's okay to phone a friend and ask her to check her local Target, just saying.

Twill Utility Anorak
This jacket is very similar to the one above. It has a nice drawstring waist to add some definition and shape. This particular style comes in numerous different colors. If you are not feeling this army green vibe, you could total change it up! Oh yeah, and it's only $31.99 at Target!

The Downtown Field Jacket
This is the jacket that I am wearing in the photo above. I feel like they make it every season in different colors. I love all of the gold details from the zipper to the snap buttons. Right now, it's on sale for $99 and there is a coupon code for additional savings (use code YESPLEASE). If you are looking to splurge, I highly recommend this jacket!

Lined Freeport Field Jacket
This jacket is $99 and comes in the beautiful olive gray color. Bonus, it's lined with extra-soft fleece. This bad boy would be perfect for visiting the pumpkin patch or jumping in the leaves. Your Instagram game will be leveling up! There is also a promo code for 20% off when you spend $50 (use code SAVE20).

Alright my friends, I hope that you have found the jacket of your dreams (for a fraction of the cost). If you already own one, kudos for you being a stylish babe!  What's your preferred way to style this jacket? I can't wait to hear your ideas!

Wine Colored Shoes at ModCloth

Wine Colored Shoes at ModCloth

October is my second favorite month of the entire year, followed by December (because of Christmas, duh). All month long I will be celebrating my birthday! This year I will be turning 28 on the October 28. How cool is that (I am trying not to freak out about almost being 30)!? To celebrate, we are going on a couples trip to Napa Valley. That's where Jered and I had our honeymoon. I can't wait to be back in wine country with him and our sweet friends. We already have dinner reservations at The French Laundry. Usually, this place is so hard to get into for dinner; they take reservations one month in advance. I was so surprised to hear a voice at the other end of the phone when I called! Anywho, I would love to hear your winery recommendations; we are working on our plan and have room for a few more tastings.

Obviously, I have wine on my mind. This gorgeous dark red wine color seems to be everywhere you turn! I have found four different pairs of shoes, two heels and two flats in this fun color. They are each under $100 from ModCloth. These shoes would be an easy way to add this popular color to your wardrobe.  If you have never ordered anything from ModCloth, you can save 20% off your entire order! Girl, you know I am all about the savings! If you are a ModCloth regular, then you know that you get free shipping on orders $75 or more.

Going Through the Loco-Motions Heel in Maroon Velvet
Just look at these gorgeous little ladies! You can wear these to the office and beyond. I am really into the retro vibes they give me. For some reason, I could see my Nana telling me she had a pair like these back in the day. Also, can we take a moment to do a happy dance for chunky heels? They give me confidence that I am not going to fall on my face in front of everyone and embarrass myself.

Cue the Classics Heel in Wine
If you thought the previous pair was a little too much of a heel for you, these should make you happy. This heel measures at 2.5 inches, just enough to give you a little somethin' something. These would be the perfect accompaniment to a navy and wine striped dress I have hanging in my closet! The thing that catches my eye about these heels is the price. I cannot believe that these beautiful babes are under $40!

Long Beach Bash Slip-on Sneaker in Burgundy
Three cheers for comfortable weekend shoes! Honestly, these are cute enough that you could pull them off on a casual Friday paired with boyfriend jeans and a matching sweater. I could see me sipping a caramel latte on an early Saturday morning at my favorite coffee shop rocking these sweet kicks. These will be a conversation starter with total strangers. Everyone will be asking, where did you get your shoes?

Every Day of the Sleek Flat in Burgundy
Okay, I can almost hear you judging these shoes. I know these are not my usual style, but there is something charming about them. Right now, I kind of like that ladies fashion is taking notes from the men. These are a traditional Oxford flat. To make them have a feminine feel, I would pair them with a fall floral print tunic. However, if you are feeling edgy, rock them with a pair of skinny cuffed and own it, girl! The first rule of fashion--there are no rules!

Okay friends, how do you feel about this wine color for fall? Are you adding a few items to your closet to stay on trend? I would love to hear from you. Which of these shoes speak to your style?

My Fall Fashion Finds--Chambray Showdown

My Fall Fashion Finds--Chambray Showdown

Top: J.Crew Factory (on major sale) || Skirt: Wooden Nickle, here's a similar floral print || Belt: Kate Spade || Booties: Kate Spade  || Earrings: Piece [c/o] orange is sold out, still available in turquoise || Watch: Michael Kors || Ring: Tiffany & Co. || photos: In My Life Photography ||

I cannot contain my chill about fall fashion! Booties and jeans, oh my! One little side note about me, I have a lot of chambray in my closet (like a LOT). Honestly from now until summer, you will find me wearing a chambray top at least once a week! Girl, there is no shame in my game. Depending on your mood, I believe that you can style one of these tops for the office or weekend brunch with your gal pals. The skirt pictured above is so fun and feminine. I love how these two unexpected items pair so well together. Sometimes when I put together a baller outfit, I feel like a total boss.

Today I have done a little roundup of different chambray tops varying in price points. Most of these tops can be found online or in store at J. Crew Factory or Target. If you have been waiting for a sign, here it is my friend! You need one of these tops in your closet! Alright, now let's get down to business. It's time for a chambray showdown!

Chambray Showdown--J. Crew vs Target

Classic Chambray Shirt in Perfect Sky
This top is a classic! Right now it's on sale for $39.50. I find that it gets softer with each wear and wash. It is on the thicker side as far as chambray tops go. It's very structured and stays pretty wrinkle free.

Denim Favorite Shirt in Medium Indigo
This top is a lot like the classic chambray from J. Crew. It goes with anything you want to pair it with on the bottom; from black, navy, white, or animal print. I love it paired with a chunky statement necklace. This top is $24.99.

Pocket Chambray Shirt is Miami Blue
This button down is on the lighter side. Right now it's on sale for $39.50. I don't currently own this top, but it's on my wishlist. I want it for layering over graphic t-shirts.

Lyocell Shirt in Indigo
This top is chic on a budget! If you do not want to spend $40 on a transition piece, consider checking this one out. Right now it's $22.99, and Target is running a sale, BOGO 50% off of clothing, shoes, and accessories.

Chambray Shirt in Boy Fit in Superior Blue Wash
Do you love dark wash? This top is for you! It's currently on sale for $39.50. I do not own this shirt, but I have seen it a couple of times in person. My best friend has found a similar one at Target for less!

Denim Favorite Shirt
Right now, the only size online is an XXL. However, I have a feeling that it will be restocked soon (fingers crossed). It's currently $24.99, This top a little different from the J. Crew option; it buttons all the way down. If you are looking to add darker colors into your closet--this would fit the bill.

I want to hear from you. Currently how many chambray items are in your closet? Are you going to purchase one of these? If so, which one? I will be getting one of the dark wash tops. Fist bump for savings!

The Best Food at the Oklahoma State Fair

The Best Food at the Oklahoma State Fair

Wednesday I had the honor of serving as the Wild Card judge for the Great Taste of a Fair. Tasting all of that delicious food was a dream come true! I felt like I was a judge on my favorite Food Network show, Chopped. Finally, my excellent taste buds were put to good use! We got to sample 15 different items three different categories: Sweetest of the Sweet, Slice of Savory and New to the Scene. Here are how things shook out.

1st Place: Gringo's Mexican Funnel Cake

Sweetest of the Sweet:
1st Place: Gringo's Mexican Funnel Cake
2nd Place: Silver Dollar Concessions Cinnamon Roll
3rd Place: Chef Ray Street Eats Deep-Fried Banana Pudding

Slice of Savory:1st Place: Ragin' Cajun, Chicken On-A-Stick

Slice of Savory: 1st Place: Ragin' Cajun, Chicken On-A-Stick
2nd Place: Diamond Dawgs, The Wonderboy
3rd Place: Rodney & Lisa Pizza Stand, Chicken Alfredo Calzone

1st Place: La Gumbo Ya Ya, Red Bean & Rice

New to the Scene:
1st Place: La Gumbo Ya Ya, Red Bean & Rice
2nd Place: CoCoFlow Chocolate Cafe, Asian Bulgogi Crepe
3rd Place: The Sundae Factory, Pineapple Whip Twist

Fairest of them All:
La Gumbo Ya Ya, Red Bean & Rice

If you are visiting the fair and are looking for the ultimate sweet treat, go for the giant cinnamon roll. It is oh so gooey! The giant cinnamon roll is the Victoria Secret Angel of fair food that we do not deserve. We are not worthy! I totally took home my leftovers and had it for dessert last night, no shame!

If you are looking for actual food, go straight for the chicken on-a-stick. Make sure you grab the hot sauce, it's homemade and will punch you square in the face! I will be visiting this stand and taking a bottle of the hot sauce to go. I will be carrying around hot sauce in my bag with some serious swag.

It's a good thing the Oklahoma State Fair comes once a year. Today I had a session with my personal trainer, and I could just feel the deep-fried goodness coming out as sweating out my pores. That's how it works, right? At least that's what I am telling myself.

Eat what you want, Instagram it or it didn't happen, and have fun tasting your way through the Oklahoma State Fair! Remember, the last day of the Oklahoma State Fair is September 25. I hope to see you there!

Fall Booties at Target

Fall Booties at Target

Pumpkin spice has officially taken over everything! Everywhere you look, another brand or company is jumping on the train to flavor town, the destination--basic white girl! Okay, you summer purists; I know that fall doesn't technically kick off until September 22, but I cannot help but feel giddy! I am ready to wear jeans, booties, sweaters, and jackets without looking like I just got out of the ocean (guys, 90 degrees is too hot for that nonsense). I am a pretty sweaty person; I like to joking refer to it as "sweatykins." Until then, I will be patiently waiting for 65 degree days.

To help get you in the fall state of mind, I am sharing a few of my favorite fall booties from Target! Bonus, there is a coupon code when you order online (but hurry--it expires September 17)! Use code STYLE to save $10 off of your $40 or more purchase. If you haven't noticed by now, I am all about looking good and saving cash! With you $10 in savings, you can buy you and your bestie a PSL. Major key alert, all of these booties are under $50!

dv Lotus Peep Toe Fringe Booties
It's safe to say that fringe is back in style for fall 2016. These booties will make a movement with every step you take. Everyone will stop and ask you, where did you get those booties?! Your new shoes will be the queen of the college gameday tailgating scene. Touchdown, booties for the win!

Journee Collection Emm Faux Suede Booties
Gray is not my typical go-to color but these beauties caught me eye. The laser cutouts give them a fun and feminine touch. You can wear these with almost anything from dark to light; I could see someone pairing them with a leather jacket and looking so rocker chic. Side note, can we talk about how much I want a leather jacket. Dear Santa, I hope you are listening!

Mad Love® Carley Booties
I have had my eye on a pair just like these booties from another big brand. I couldn't bring myself to spend $100 on them. I am so thankful that Target came out with a more affordable option. This color is my obsession right now. How great would these be with a pair of relaxed boyfriend jeans or skinny jeans? These shoes are excellent for a hot date night or if you are out on the town with your girls.

dv Aria Booties
I am saving the best for last. Come on! How sexy are these booties? They are begging to be paired with a mini skirt and concert t-shirt. You know, the look I am talking about-- I am trying without overly trying? That zipper detail makes these shoes look way more expensive than what they are. They also come in black if you are not feeling this color. These booties have me smitten!

Are you in the market for a pair of fall shoes? Which booties will you be adding to your collection? I can't wait to hear from you. Happy shopping (and savings), friends!

The Cap'n Crunch Corn Dog

The Cap'n Crunch Corn Dog

The Oklahoma State Fair is looking for a wildcard judge for the Great Taste of a Fair! I could sample all of the state fair food and crown the winner (if I am lucky enough to get picked). Umm hello, this is a dream! Last week I made my Top 10 Foods to Eat at the Oklahoma State Fair list. Let's just say that inspired me to recreate my favorite, The Cap'n Crunch Corn Dog.

Before I made my trip to Target for ingredients, I did some research. Guys, I google things way more than what I would like to admit (Google + Lindsey = BFF's forever and ever amen).  I came across The Pioneer Woman's Clasic Corn Dog recipe. I figured that would be a great base for my corn dog. I just needed to grab some of the sugary cereal to add a coating. I have never deep-fried anything in my kitchen. I am trying so darn hard to be healthy. Well...that went out the window last night around 5:00 p.m. and I documented the whole thing via Snapchat.

Real talk,  this recipe makes a lot of batter. For two people, it's way too much! I cut the recipe in half, and it worked just fine. I added the cereal into a large freezer zip-top bag. After I had sealed the bag, I smashed the cereal with a rolling pin until it was like a fine dust. Smashing things is a great way to relieve stress; you go girl--pound away all of your frustrations! I poured the mixture into a bread pan and set up my work station.

After I dipped the hot dog into the batter, I immediately coated it with the crushed cereal and placed it into the fryer. Be sure to test the oil before you toss a hot dog into it. To do this, I coated a spoon in the mixture. I dropped a few dots into the hot oil. You can tell that the oil hot enough if the batter starts to bubble and turn a golden color. The best part about this whole recipe? It goes fast--set your timer and don't crowd your pot. Just follow the recipe from PW, make my little addition, and you can have an Oklahoma State Fair fan-favorite anytime you want.

I will not guarantee this is how the professionals do it, but hey--it tasted pretty delicious to me. The Cap'n Crunch Corn Dog is like a regular corn dog with a hint of sweetness and a MEGA crunch!

The great debate, what is your condiment of choice when it comes to corn dogs? I wanna know! My pick is mustard, all the way!

Great Taste of a Fair

Great Taste of a Fair

As of today, we are 33 days away from the Oklahoma State Fair! This time of year makes me giddy. I have had so many wonderful memories that revolve around the fair. Growing up in Pawhuska, each fall I participated in the Osage County Free Fair with livestock and non-livestock exhibits. I worked all summer on different arts and crafts projects with the goal of a blue ribbon. If my items were lucky enough to get a blue ribbon, they went on to compete at the Tulsa State Fair. Imagine this, a nine-year-old little girl seeing her hard work pay off with a blue ribbon at the state fair. I jumped for joy when I realized that I had won. My prized homemade milkshake candle had a special place on my dresser until I graduated from high school. Prized possession? I think so!

It was not until I was a teenager until I got the chance to experience the Oklahoma State Fair. There were a few times a year that I had the opportunity to visit Oklahoma City, and this was one of them. I showed my breeding ewes and market wethers at the Oklahoma State Fair. After running on little sleep and smelling like a sheep, there was nothing better than visiting the Cookie Time stand. I patiently waited for this moment all week! You could smell the freshly baked cookies throughout the barn. A chocolate chip cookie that was bigger than my face was calling my name. I remember my first bite like it was yesterday. I walked back to my sheep pen and enjoyed the rest but not before one of my show lambs helped himself to a bite. Who knew lambs like cookies? You have been warned 4-H and FFA exhibitors, guard your cookies!

Even though my livestock showing days are behind me, I still visit the Oklahoma State Fair. However, my agenda looks a little different. Now when I visit, I am in search of the best food around. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! Let's be real, my gym sessions are about to amp it up a notch, so I don't feel so guilty when I am chowing down on a massive cinnamon roll.

My Top 10 State Fair Foods
1. Captain Crunch Corn Dog
2. Funnel Cake
3. Deep-Fried Oreos
4. Indian Taco
5. Cinnamon Roll
6. Roasted Corn on the Cob
7. Cookie Time Cookie
8. Pork Chop Sandwich
9. Cotton Candy
10. Cheese-on-a-Stick

Obviously, I am not going to eat all ten items, but a girl can dream! This weekend I am going to try to recreate the famous Captain Crunch Corn Dog. I am up for the challenge and love a good experiment in the kitchen.

What's your favorite State Fair food?

|| Dress: J. Crew Factory (it comes in two colors and is on mega sale, use coupon code SHOPBETTER) || Kimono: Boutique in Pawhuska (it's a few years old) || Necklace: Kendra Scott (a few years old, but here's one similar) || Earrings: Kendra Scott (sold out) || Bracelets: Accessory Concierge (multiple colors available) Kendra Scott (multiple colors available), and Lauren Hope (multiple colors available) || Ring: Tiffany & Co. || Shoes: MIA (they only have a few sizes left) || Clutch: Accessory Concierge (this color is sold out but other colors are available) || Photos: Post Grad Kate ||

We still have a little time before fall arrives. Heck, here in Oklahoma it feels like summertime until October! Those early home football games are so unbearably hot, I am sweating just thinking about it. Speaking of the heat, I am taking full advantage of the hottest trend of the summer, pom poms! Everywhere you look, tassels and pom poms have been added to everything from clothing, shoes, handbags, and even jewelry. At first, I was a little hesitant to adopt this trend, but it seems to have some staying power. I always tend to look for cheaper items when it comes to trends. I like to splurge on my closet essentials.

A few years ago, I was the Chickasaw Country travel blogger. During my travels (when I was not stuffing my face with festival food) I would find some of the cutest little boutiques around. There are still a few boutiques that I keep up with on social media. One of them is 3rd & Broadway in Sulphur, Oklahoma. A few weeks ago, they posted a photo of these sandals on Instagram. The moment I saw them, I knew they had to be mine! I called up the owner and a few days later they arrived on my doorstep with a sweet little note. Y'all, I love mega stores, but there is something about supporting a small mom and pop shop that does the heart good. 3rd and Broadway sold out of these sandals, but you can purchase them online. These funky sandals inspired my entire outfit!

This straw pom pom trim clutch is sold-out (there are a few other colors still available, I linked to them at the beginning of the post). I have seen everyone from The College Prepster to Miss Retail Therapist carrying it all summer long. I am giving away one to a lucky reader. Enter below for your chance to win. This giveaway will end Friday, and I'll contact the random winner. Good luck!

I have paired up with a few other bloggers. Make sure to check out their Summer Essentials post. Who knows, maybe you will find a few items to add to your to-do list before pumpkin spice everything takes over! What is your summer must-have?

Flair for the Hair

Flair for the Hair

Dress: Kate Spade (you can rent it on Rent the Runway and save) || Hair barrette: Elizabeth Heard [c/o] || Necklace: Kate Spade (a few years old, but here's one similar) || Earrings: Kate Spade || Bracelets: Kate Spade (sold out, similar one and similar two) || Ring: Tiffany & Co. || Shoes: Kate Spade (a few years old, but here is a pair with the cork look) || Photos: Post Grad Kate ||

Growing up in Oklahoma, your outfit wasn't complete without a matching bow. Can you say, tiny human diva? I remember my mom putting the finishing touches on my outfit before we went to school or church. My younger sister and I had a rather large bow collection featuring all colors of the rainbow (but mostly pink). I gave up on the hairbows until I made the high school cheerleading squad, go Huskies! My mom and I made some outrageous and sometimes ridiculous bows for football season. Now wouldn't that make for a great TBT post? I'll spare your eyes from having to see that.

I went off to college at Oklahoma State University in the fall of 2007. Before Nike shorts and oversized t-shirts took over college campus everywhere, bows were the hottest accessory for sorority girls. Each day, I channeled my inner seven-year-old and had a matching tiny bow that clipped on my side bangs. I must say, I am not proud of this--but it totally happened y'all. You live and you learn!

Clearly, I am not in college anymore. Grownup life can seem a little bit drab and dull sometimes, everything is black, white or gray. I don't know about you, but this girl needs color! I have found a fun way to make your outfit pop and stand out from the crowd. And no, you will not look like Honey Boo Boo (not gonna lie, I totally watched that show #NoShame). I am a 100% fan girl for Elizabeth Heard! Let me tell you a little bit more about her and her business.

Elizabeth Heard is a southern girl, from Georgia. She has had a life-long obsession with hair barrettes! In the spring of 2015, she created Elizabeth Heard, making carefully crafted hair accessories. She is the definition of a boss babe, right? I have been following along her journey via Instagram. I am so impressed with her creativity and passion!

I want you to find a piece that takes your outfit to the next level. You have got to check her stuff out! Let's be real; it's fun to be a little different. Elizabeth Heard just launched a new product line, "Hair Juice." Heck, I am thinking about getting the orange hair band for Oklahoma State University gameday! We have partnered up to bring you savings, use coupon code: EHxLD for 15% off any order! So go head girl, click "add to cart" because savings, duh! What barrette is on your wish list? I will leave you with a few of my favorites, happy shopping!

Completely Empty Beauty Products

Completely Empty Beauty Products

I love trying new beauty products; there are only a few items that I am in a serious long-term relationship with at this time. One of them being my skin-care routine! When you find something that works, stick to it! Am I right? Today I am going to review three items that I completely emptied this month. I can't wait to see what you think!

1) Bobbi Brown's Hydrating Gel Cream
I have extremely oily skin (it's a blessing and a curse). This moisturizer came into my life a little over four years ago. After applying this gel cream, my face instantly feels ready to take on the day! It makes your face feel moisturized, refreshed and rejuvenated. The only downside to this product is that it does not contain any SPF. Currently, my foundation and BB cream both have SPF, I feel confident that my face is protected from the sun's harmful rays. Think of SPF as your BFF!

2) Kate Spade's Live Colorfully Perfume Spray
If you are in the market for fun and fresh new scent, take this one for a spin. I am not sure if I will purchase this fragrance again. I did enjoy it, but I got tired of it after a while. Since college, I have been on a quest to find my new signature scent. This one for me seemed almost too youthful. I do love the packaging of this product. Each morning when I applied a few sprays, it brought a smile to my face! I love bright colors and let's be real--bows make everything better!

3) Living Proof's Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo
I am not one to usually stray from my hair products. I am a fangirl of both Redken and Pureology. I have seen so many beauty bloggers gushing about Living Proof dry shampoo! I put an Ulta Coupon to good use and took a bottle home. This dry shampoo makes your hair feel clean without weighing it down. I am very impressed with this stuff. If you haven't found the right dry shampoo for you, try this one. The only thing I don't like is the price tag. I would wait until you have a coupon (but that's just me). I believe that this dry shampoo would work well for all hair colors.

I need your help! I want to know what your signature scent is. I am in the market for a new perfume. I want to find something that I loved as much as Juicy Couture (back in my high school and college days). I tend to go for flirty and feminine, but I am open minded.

Embrace Your Inner Pineapple

Let's have an honest and frank conversation. I am about to open up about something deep. Buckle up, buttercup! The world is a scary place, and there are some awful people out there. Each time I turn on the news I am almost brought to tears! With each day that passes, it seems like there is some senseless act of violence taking place fueled by hate and intolerance.

I just finished up "Called To Be A Keeper" a Bible study about being a woman of God. We can hear a particular passage numerous times and not think twice about it. As our seasons of life change, we can see and hear things differently. Below is a verse that really stuck with me and I try to live by each day.

Honestly,  I cannot imagine if I didn't have the love of Jesus in my heart. It would be very easy to feel all alone in this big and frightening world. I know no matter what God has my back! It's my prayer that you know the peace of mind that only God can provide.

Here's the deal, I am a Christian. It's my understanding that God called me to love everyone regardless of race, gender, and our other differences. I think back to the song that we sang as children, "Jesus Loves The Little Children."

Jesus loves the little children
All the children of the world
Red and yellow, black and white
They're precious in his sight
Jesus loves the little children of the world

Okay, I am off of my soapbox! Now, let's talk about good ol' southern hospitality. The world could use an extra dose of the good stuff right about now! Am I right? I am talking about compassion and kindness! The pineapple is a symbol of hospitality. What's ironic, I am allergic to pineapples and oranges (yes, I will never know the love of bottomless mimosas). Over the next week, I encourage you to show the world that there are still nice people out there. If we come together, we can make our communities a better place!

10 Simple Ways To Show Kindness

1. Greet a stranger with good morning and hold the door open for them
2. Purchase the coffee for the person behind you in line
3. Give you mail person a cold bottle of water
4. Send a note of thanks to an old friend
5. Say please and thank you (and mean it)
6. Pass along a great book you just finished
7. Surprise a friend by transferring your unused frequent flier miles
8. Bring a box of doughnuts to your early weekend activities
9. Give a friend a hug when they need it
10. Smile

What are some ways that you show random acts of kindness to others? I would love to hear your ideas!

Fiji Travel Tips

Fiji Travel Tips

This past May, my husband and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary. Time is just flying by; I can hardly believe it! Each year to celebrate, we try and take a trip together somewhere tropical. Can you tell both of our love languages is quality time? When December rolls around, we start planning our beach getaway. Honestly, I never would have dreamed that we could afford to visit Fiji. After doing research and looking into other options, it was a great fit for us this year.

We live in somewhat of the middle of the country. We almost always fly out of Dallas instead of Oklahoma City. By doing this, we save a few hundred dollars and get a mini road trip out of the deal. From Dallas, we flew to Los Angeles and had a seven-hour layover. We decided to stay at the airport instead of renting a car and exploring. If you plan on staying at the airport, I would highly recommend purchasing a day pass to an airport lounge. During our layover we ate dinner, shopped, charged our phones, and visited a wine bar. From LAX to Fiji is an approximately 11.5-hour flight. Before our trip, I broke into a nervous sweat just thinking about sitting still that long. I had never been on an airplane longer than six hours before. Looking back, I can say the flight was not that bad. I took some ZzzQuil thirty minutes into the flight, put on my neck pillow, and took a nice long nap.

If you are thinking about visiting Fiji anytime soon, I have a few tips for you to keep in mind. We traveled to Denarau Island and stayed at The Westin Resort & Spa.

The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa, Fiji

Fiji Travel Tips

Purchase a power adapter
Before you leave, visit Amazon and order this universal 2 in 1 plug adapter. We didn't even think to order one before our trip. Thankfully we were able to find one at our resort. You can save a little cash by ordering it ahead of time.

Review the dress code
If you are planning on visiting different dining establishments on the resort, make sure to check the dress code. While you are at it, make reservations if you have a special occasion dinner in mind. You will be able to pack according and dine with confidence.

Ask for early check in / late check out
Depending on your arrival and departure time, you might consider talking to the hotel when you are booking your rooms. We arrived at 6:30 a.m. Fiji time and asked for an early check-in, but we were not able to get into our room until 2:30 p.m. You will find that different hotels and resorts have different policies for arrivals and departures. This is why it is so important to have items in your carry-on bag to keep you entertained.

If you have to wait for your room, ask for a shower or breakfast
If you arrive early and are not able to check into your room, don't be afraid to ask for breakfast or a shower. The Westin was able to let my husband and I both shower at the gym facilities. After traveling for 30+ hours, all I wanted was a hot shower. It was an instant mood booster! I had a fresh change of clothes, sunscreen, and swimsuit in my bag. We were ready to lay out by the pool as we waited for our room. The hotel staff also provided us with free breakfast, even though we had breakfast on the plane. Even if you are not hungry, you could always use a cup of coffee or champagne, am I right?

Get the goods
The Westin and Sheraton have gift shops with snacks, water, sunscreen, and trinkets. During our stay at The Westin, we received two Fiji water bottles daily in our room at no additional charge. You can take them to the beach or dinner with you. I would recommend taking the Bula Bus into the port and stocking up on snacks and water. You will score some savings by doing that, and it gives you a chance to explore some additional shops and restaurants.

Creep on TripAdvisor
If you are interested in doing an excursion during your trip to Fiji, you should take a look at TripAdvisor. I seek out the TripAdvisor "Certificate of Excellence" recipients. Most generally, the reviews are sorted with the most recent appearing first. You can get an understanding of what to expect for your excursion, what you need to bring (if anything), the price, and view photos from other users.

Currency
If you are a planner, arrange to visit your bank a few weeks in advance to order currency for your destination. Your bank can typically order currency for you cheaper than what you would pay at an exchange counter in the airport. If you find yourself in a pinch for time, you can visit a currency exchange station in your departing or arrival airport. You will need enough cash for a taxi, tips, and trinkets. If you stay at The Westin or Sheraton, almost everything can be credited to your room. You can take care of all of the additional charges when you check out which saves on international exchange fees.

I hope that you find these tips helpful for planning your next trip, even if it's not to Fiji. Keep your eyes peeled for another post about things to do in Denarau Island North!Location

What's in My Beach Bag

Everyone is a little different when it comes to their ideal climate. Some people like winter, others like summer. For whatever reason, I tend to sweat no matter what season it is (oh joy). As odd as that may seem, I do have a personal preference for summertime. I love a good bikini, book, shades, and oversized hat.

My husband and I tend to vacation somewhere with a beach or at least a great resort pool. Since we do not have a pool in our backyard here in Oklahoma, spending time lounging by the pool with a cold drink and a good book is a real treat when it does happen. I spend a week leading up to vacation to make sure I have my beach bag game strong. This adorable monogrammed bag was a gift for being a bridesmaid in my BFF's wedding earlier this spring. I have found a similar preppy option with a zipper on Etsy.

When you are prepping for a relaxing afternoon at the beach or lounging beside the pool, there are a few essentials that you need to have prepared. Below you will find what's in my beach bag!

A cute beach towel
On the GoGo - Seat's Taken Beach Towel from Packed Party is on my wish list, talk about making a statement! I love that it's so sassy without saying a word.

Sandals
These slip on sandals from Target (on sale for $15.99) are my everything this summer! I find myself wearing them nonstop durring the weekends and sneaking them into my professional wear on a casual Friday.

Tanning spray
Banana Boat Deep Tanning UltraMist SPF 15 Clear Dry Oil Sunscreen takes me back to my lifeguard days! The twist and lock top will keep your bag neat and clean. The smell of this stuff will bring a smile to your face and having you living on island time!

Sunscreen
Neutrogena® Ultra Sheer® Dry-Touch Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is the best on the market in my opinion. It goes on smoothly and dries almost instantly without that greasy feeling. My husband and sister have very fair skin; I purchase the SPF 70 for them.

Sunglasses
I tend to have bad luck keeping up with sunglasses, so I have a hard time justifying spending a lot of money on them. Shout out to all of my sunnies in heaven! Here is a cute pair of Kate Spade sunglasses that are under $60!

Magazines
Here's the deal on magazines, I don't subscribe to any. Sometimes I grab a couple in the checkout line at Target. Other than that, my co-workers bring their copies into the office when they have read them. I know that sounds cheap but hey, I don't hate it!

Books
I don't have an e-reader. There is a B&N not too far from my house that I like to visit. I also find good deals at Target in their reading section. I try and wait for the book to go 20% off before purchasing it.

Cellphone
Make sure your phone battery life is ready to snap some photos, apps are up to date, and your podcasts are downloaded. You will also want to set a timer for sunscreen reapplication.

Headphones
You don't want to be stuck listening to the worst pool playlist ever, right? Before you head out, prep your ultimate summer playlist. Just plug in your headphones and you will be in a better mood in no time!

Water
We can't have you getting dehydrated now, can we? You have to make sure to keep your water intake high if you are spending time outdoors in the sun.

Snacks
I tend to pack my bag with a few different snacking options. I recommend a power bar (stay away with chocolate, that will be a melted mess), dried fruit, or a trail mix. I also suggest packing enough to share with friends.

Wallet
I don't want to carry my purse to the pool or the beach.  I just toss my wallet into my bag. You don't want to miss out on a frozen drink because you left your cash or card in the car!

I want to hear from you! What are a few must-have items that you keep in your beach bag?

10 Signs You Found Your Dream Wedding Dress

I love attending weddings! Why? Because you get to celebrate two people falling in love and committing their lives to one another, that's such a magical thing to witness. My second favorite thing about weddings? Each individual wedding dress! I love how each bride finds a dress that fits their exact style.

Shopping for a wedding dress can be extremely stressful! Picking out my wedding dress was my favorite part of wedding planning. But that's a different story for another time. Today I am talking about how to know when you have found the one!

10 Signs You Found Your Dream Wedding Dress

1. When you turn around, you are shocked

Most wedding dress fitting rooms have floor-length mirrors, that way you can see the bigger picture and the minor details. The moment you turn around with your dream dress on, you will be in shock with how beautiful you look and feel.

2. You can't wait to see everyone's reaction

You are giddy with excitement to walk out of the fitting room and show your friends and family this dress. You can't help but smile and feel like an actual bride-to-be!

3. You are living in a daydream

Once you walk onto the bridal floor, everyone is gushing about your "bridal glow" and the features of the dress. You, on the other hand, are in a daydream. You imagine yourself on your big day in your chic dress.

4. You wonder how your significant other will feel about the dress

You are standing on the bridal floor examining every detail under the lighting. In the back of your mind, you can't help but wonder what your significant other will think about this dress.

5. Someone in the bridal party tears up

You may or may not have that moment where you cry tears of joy. However, someone in your shopping entourage will just be overwhelmed with emotions. It's such a special moment when they realize that you a) found your dream dress and b) that you are getting married. Heck, sometimes this happens before the bride admits she is saying yes to the dress!

6. You start thinking about accessories

Your mind starts to wonder about what to pair with this dress. Does it need a necklace? What earring style would I wear? Does this dress need a veil? If so, what length?

7. You can't imagine yourself walking down the aisle in anything else

Every other dress you have tried on is not even close. How can you compete with perfection? The other dresses are running together and becoming a blur because you are soaking up every detail about your dream dress!

8. You are so happy about this dress; no one else opinions matter

You might have someone attending your bridal appointment that doesn't agree with your style or taste. And that's okay; you invited that person for a reason. When you are soaking up your moment in the sun, you don't even care what that person thinks. You are on cloud nine, one person's disagreement is not going to bring you down.

9. You do not want to take the dress off

You find ways to keep the dress on longer. You try one jewelry, the search for the veil that compliments the dress, you twirl around or drop it low to see what it feels like on the dance floor--you get the idea. If you have gone and tried another dress on, you reach back for the perfect dress, validating your decision.

10.  You feel comfortable and confident

The thing that matters most is how the dress makes you feel. Your dress should make you feel comfortable and confident. Every girl deserves to feel like a princess! Soon you will be standing in front of your family and friends holding hands with your person confessing your love to all! You might as well look good while doing!

Have you found your dress? Let's hear how you know it was the one!

What to Wear on a Spring Rainy Day

Dress: J. Crew Factory (use code "CUTESALE" at checkout) || Booties: Kate Spade (on major sale) || Drink: Iced Caramel Macchiato || Nail Polish Color: CND: Tutti Frutti (my signature color for summer) ||

This week in Oklahoma, Mother Nature has let us know that it is still spring. With all of the rain in the forecast, it has dampened my outfit selections. Getting dressed in the morning when you know it's going to rain all day is somewhat of a drag to me. Does anyone else feel that way? Since I admire my shoes and treat them like they are my children, I don't want to take a chance and risk getting them soaking wet. Can you image trampling through mud puddles in four-inch heels? Yeah, I'll take a hard pass on that. I am very clumsy and like to save myself from potential embarrassing moments when I can.

Everybody should have a trusty pair of rain boots. I had the most adorable pair of navy and hot pink polka dot boots that saved me during my college days. After years of wear, they finally gave up on me. Last year for my birthday, Jered found these adorable Kate Spade rain boots. The little bow detail on the back heel just makes me smile!

Even though it's raining outside, I try to surround myself with sunshine. Here are a few ways to brighten up your day:
1) Coffee makes everything better
2) Pile on the bright accessories
3) Grab another pair of shoes to change into while at the office
4) Find an umbrella with a funky print
5) Tie a bow in your trench coat and march forward
